12 Best Hard Rock Singers Of The 1990s

10. Zack De La Rocha - Rage Against The Machine

Almost every singer coming out this decade had a certain tortured quality to their voice. Whereas the 80's may have been about partying and having a good time, these vocalists were releasing all of their pain through their vocal cords and producing the angriest music the rock world had ever known. That being said, when it comes to angry music, nothing sums up that emotion better than Rage Against the Machine.

From the first time you heard Zack da la Rocha open his mouth, the entire landscape of rock vocalists seemed to change. He's not necessarily a singer, but the cadence with which he performs doesn't really fall into the rapper category either. Throughout songs like "Killing in the Name" and "Guerilla Radio," Rocha's delivery seems to sit somewhere in between singing and speaking that makes each word feel like the start of some grand resistance march.

On most Rage tunes, Zack would use his voice like an instrument by starting at a lower tone of voice before building in intensity and exploding into the chorus. A lot of singers make you want to conquer the world, but if you're looking for music as the soundtrack of rebellion, you better believe Zack de la Rocha is leading the charge.
