12 Greatest Nu-Metal Bands Of All Time

2. Rage Against The Machine

Although Korn are considered the founding fathers of Nu Metal, the roots of the sub-genre pre-date them with bands such as Rage Against The Machine laying the ground work for the genre in the early 90s.

Their debut eponymous album, released in 1992, fused elements of punk, funk, rap and metal and found success in the charts, particularly with their signature anti-establishment anthem ‘Killing In The Name’. The legacy of this song is still felt today and re-entered the U.K. charts at number one in 2009 after a campaign to fight against the trend of the winner of the talent show ‘X Factor’ gaining the Christmas number one spot.

Rage Against The Machine’s debut album and 1996 follow-up ‘Evil Empire’ are arguably two of the most influential albums of the Nu Metal genre, even though the term ‘Nu Metal’ was largely unheard of at the time.

Rage’s legacy is still felt to this day and they remain a well-respected band by critics and fans alike. They recently announced a reunion tour, which will be their first full-length word tour in 20 years, although that was forced to be postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
