12 Hard Rock Bands That Quit In Their Prime
5. Guns N Roses
Guns N Roses have pretty much etched their name in hard rock history from their inception. Bursting onto the scene with Appetite for Destruction in 1987, the band signaled a change of the guard in the rock genre which called for a more authentic approach to songwriting. Once the band seemed to be verging on grander territory, everything grinded to a stop before we knew it.
After wrapping up the tour for their double disc epic Use Your Illusion, the band decided to take the next album to recharge their batteries with an ensemble of cover songs labelled "The Spaghetti Incident?." This gave many fans an inkling that new material was right around the corner, but it turns out that this freewheeling sound was from a band at odds.
During the making of the covers, the band felt stifled by the iron hand of Axl Rose, who had bought the rights to the name and was now using it to seize total creative control. Though the album process began in earnest in 1994, the dictating became too much for the rest of the band to stomach, with everyone quickly exiting until Axl was the last man standing.
We may have eventually gotten the "follow-up" Chinese Democracy in 2008, but that rootsy hard rock band somehow got lost in the shuffle.
