12 Hard Rock Bands That Quit In Their Prime
6. At The Drive In
In the early 2000's, there was nothing quite like At the Drive In. Regardless of what genre of music you were into, the rawness on display whenever these guys hit the stage could send even the calmest minds into a frenzy.
While the band had remained in the underground for a significant portion of their career, they seemed to have finally broken the indie stigma with Relationship of Command. From front to back, the album was a mix of post-hardcore, hard rock, and even some emo tendencies that made for an absolute sonic firebomb. As the band went on tour though, the free fall was set in motion.
With the band being called the next big thing, their shows started to get more and more erratic, with one show getting so out of hand that they left partway through. After cancelling the rest of their dates, the band went on "indefinite hiatus," which led to the ultimate demise of the band. When asked about the breakup years later, Cedric Bixler-Zavala credited artistic differences as the reason for the breakup, along with his drug habits, which had increased as the band continued to get bigger. We may have finally seen a new form of the band on Interalia, but nothing could compare to the sonic spectacle of their early days.
