http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYYUR21_G9c Death are one of those unfortunately neglected metal acts to emerge during the 1980s thrash metal craze. Since the death of the band's frontman, Chuck Schuldiner in 2001, the group have ceased to exist. Sad though it is, Schuldiner has gone on to receive the credit he deserves as one of the founding fathers of the death metal sub-genre. Death fused chug-heavy guitar work with guttural vocals to create a sound that in the 1980s managed to stand out as distinct from the prevalent thrash metal scene. But Death also tied their incredible musicianship into their sonic blend of blunt-force riffs and draining vocal work, creating the incredibly technical bridges and solos that would go on to become an integral part of the genre's foundations. Pull The Plug is one the finest tracks from Death's 1988 album, Leprosy. The track stands out as one of the few mid-tempo songs on the album, but it still switches into speedy passages of furore, backed with rapid snare drums and fast paced, fleshy guitar work. The band also tie in groove elements into this song, which form a brutal contrast when set against Schuldiner's throaty and frankly primitive howls. Chuck's vocal work is so savage that it often takes repeat listens for it to become bearable, especially when he really sinks his teeth into some of the more deranged screams running through the track.
