12 Most Hated Rock Albums Of All Time

6. St. Anger - Metallica

Across both the 80's and the 90's, Metallica were one of the most powerful metal bands on the scene. Even though some metalheads didn't like the softer touch of the band's work on The Black Album, that record helped bring in a whole new sea of fans to the heavy metal genre. Once Metallica dropped the ball though, fans have still never let them hear the end of it.

As the 2000's were dawning, the band was floundering, with James Hetfield going to rehab and bassist Jason Newsted leaving the band while they were cutting their new album. It wasn't until 2003 that fans finally got St. Anger, which remains the black sheep of the band's catalog. The entire sound of the record feels off, with no guitar solos and some of the most headache-inducing cymbal bashing Lars Ulrich has ever laid down.

Along with the sound quality itself, most of the songs on the album feel half-finished, almost like the band was short of material and was trying to scrape together enough to make a decent record. Though St. Anger may not get the credit it deserves as the rawest Metallica effort, there are many metalheads who would sooner take an axe to this record than put it in the stereo again.
