12 Most OVERRATED Hard Rock Bands Of All Time
3. Creed
For all that's been said about Creed as of late, it's never fun to criticize the genuine talent behind the band. The chops that guitarist Mark Tremonti has are unbelievable and have created some of the greatest moments for 90's guitar rock. On the other hand, it's hard to see the little flourishes in the man's playing when it's buried beneath the nasal soulfulness of Scott Stapp.
During the band's early period, they had genuine potential to be something big, but the band ironically achieved that monumental success once they watered down their sound to a near-parody of itself. Across albums like Human Clay and Weathered, there are a handful of great tunes, but what ended up being the cream of the crop would have been laughed out of the room in the early 90's.
As time has gone on though, Alter Bridge has been the ultimate example of what a band like Creed could sound like if the music was actually executed properly. When it comes to classic material, people tend to see Creed as the golden children of post-grunge, when in reality their music just serves as relics from a time rock would rather forget. To each their own, but there's only so much that can be done behind Stapp's yarly croon.
