2. Limp Bizkit
How did we ever excuse Limp Bizkit's success? For as stupid as some of the nu metal cliches could get, we still should have been able to see the stupidity behind these guys. Then again, Fred Durst and co. were able to dominate the rock charts despite all of their flagrant shortcomings.
It almost pains me to say this because some of the musicians behind the scenes like DJ Lethal and Wes Borland have some genuine talent that could be tapped, but what we ended up getting time after time were pale imitations of the nu metal lifestyle and what labels thought the music stood for. Rather than being the introspective thoughts of the adolescent mind, these songs turned that inner pain into a vague excuse to write jock jams for the masses.
On top of all of that, the actual lyrics from some of these songs are either too stupid to take seriously or actually fairly questionable towards anyone that isn't Fred Durst himself. When they were introduced at Woodstock '99, Limp Bizkit had the preamble of "You Wanted the Worst, You Got the Worst." With a legion of fans still clamoring for the band's next album, how much longer will it take before we all take that hint?
