12 Unbelievably Underrated Beatles Tracks
5. Yes It Is (Past Masters, Volume 1)
"Yes It Is" is an early Lennon-penned classic that a lot of people believe to be a cover. It's not.
Lennon wrote the song about a past lover that he was unable to get over. Nobody knows if it was based on a true story but from the sound of Lennon pre-Yoko, it seems unlikely. Although Lennon wrote the initial framework of the song, McCartney helped him finish it. This fusing of ideas was normal during the early days and helped cement the now iconic, Lennon and McCartney songwriting craftsmanship.
One of the best things about the song is the three-part harmony that occurs throughout the track. It is a great example of just how beautiful Lennon, McCartney and Harrison's voices go together and the different ranges that they could achieve.
The tune was released as a B side to the mind-blowing "Ticket To Ride" a song that pretty much-rejuvenated pop music as a whole. Therefore, it seems kind of obvious to why "Yes It Is" quickly faded into the background.
