13 Great Songs About Death

4. The Wonder Years - I Just Want To Sell Out My Funeral

Over the last couple of albums, Pennsylvania-based The Wonder Years have given pop punk the kick up the poop-chute it has so desperately needed for a long time.

With former heroes Fall Out Boy, Paramore, All Time Low and Panic! at the Disco all embracing their more pop sides in recent years (or whatever it is FOB are embracing), they left behind a gap for a new generation with Neck Deep, The Story So Far, State Champs, Knuckle Puck, etc. being spear-headed by Dan Campbell and friends.

Coming from 2013's The Greatest Generation, 'I Just Want To Sell Out My Funeral' is a hugely emotive anthem and acts as the send-off for a trilogy that began with 2010's sophomore The Upsides. The track tells a story through the perspective of someone contemplating taking their own life whilst trying to battle depression and anxiety. The subject constantly questions if they've done enough for the people in their life whilst also wishing they could do more.

Comparable to a concept album owing to the references to past songs from the album, '...Funeral' gives a chilling description of the mind-set of someone with mental illness, delivered through Campbell's pained vocals that sound like he's at the brink of sobbing.
