14 Best Synthwave Albums You MUST Listen To

1. Dance With The Dead - Near Dark (2014)

It would be remiss to make a synthwave list without adding DwtD, so what better way to finish that by making them the final entry.

Like a lot of synthwave artists, the pair have a background in rock and metal, which they've put to use in creating one of the heaviest examples of synth/darkwave on the market. Carrying that horror vibe brought on by Romero in the 60's, as well the Return of the Living Dead series in the 80's, DwtD is a perfect continuation of the horror themes of days gone.

Pairing some sinister synths with some slick guitar riffing over the top, it's both refreshing to hear and a throwback to a lot of those older movies we grew up with. But it's the title track that stand outs as a bonafide album hit.

Much like Carpenter Brut, it has both that looming, horror movie quality to it, with a faster beat and slick licks that'll have you both throwing horns and tapping your feet at the same time.

And there's our list! If you feel we've missed any blasts from the future past, let us know in the comments below!
