The Smiths, The Libertines, Belle and Sebastian... each decade has its indie heroes, and for the youth of today The Heartbreaks are some of the best on offer right now. With the seamless marriage of gorgeously simplistic guitar riffs and infectiously catchy lyrics, The Heartbreaks epitomise the feelings of traditional British summertime whilst creating music that's not only catchy but memorable over time too. The band's rise to fame came through supporting large acts such as Morrissey and The Killers, and everything the band does reflects this, with an undisputed confidence surrounding them in every song. Tracks such as "Delay, Delay" (from 2012's "Funtimes") exemplify this perfectly, with an air of courage present that's usually only reserved for bands after their first number one, not those striving for theirs. This however is part of their overarching appeal. They don't care about the struggle, they're making their music purely for their enjoyment, furthermore bringing the summertime aesthetic they strive to recreate into view. Although it has been almost two years since their last release, it seems 2014 will see an overdue return of these four, with a new album scheduled for later this year. The album is to be produced by Dave Eringa, which by itself is reason for excitement as he was responsible for acclaimed acts such as "Manic Street Preachers". Also, the band have issued a statement that they will be exploring new directions with this release, which is encouraging to hear as not only are they in capable hands but this won't simply be Funtimes part 2. As fantastic as that album was, there's nothing exciting about a band treading water.
