11. The Rolling Stones - Aftermath
An ill-judged track in just the wrong place can totally destroy the mood of an album. By 1966, The Rolling Stones had hit upon a perfect formula, with Brian Jones and Keith Richards' buzzing guitars and riffs as huge as Mick Jagger's house. From 'Paint it, Black' onwards, 'Aftermath was the start of a run of albums, through to the underrated 'Goats Head Soup', that augmented their position as the best rock and roll band in Britain. Shame, then, that the chose to close this statement of intent with the droning borefest that is 'Goin' Home'. 11 minutes of nothing, and the most skippable track in the Stone's catalogue-and that's saying something.
