http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdpTBRNgR_0 The modern riff masters, and the only one other than Killswitch Engage whose torch has yet to be fully extinguished, although with Vengeance Falls not being the wider-recognition-alluring Black Album they needed it to be, the majority of their latest effort is sadly nowhere near as good as the likes of 2011's In Waves, or 2008's Shogun. The latter is an absolute masterpiece, and still remains the album that many fans cite as the bands' finest. The title track of which is an expansive foray across a desolate soundscape, with enough peaks, troughs and hidden trinkets to make Skyrim jealous. Your ultimate enjoyment of this particular track overall is going to be down to how much you've acquired the taste for Matt Heafy's incredibly gutteral vocals. Regardless of that the sheer fiery intensity that leads up to an initial explosion of notes, is one of the most satisfying sections the band have ever recorded. The solo is in two parts, and the reprisal near the end of that incredibly fast ascending lick Corey Beaulieu lays down ended this career-defining album in a way that many fans are still trying to figure out the appropriate way to replicate.
