15 Best Hard Rock Singers Of All Time
11. Corey Taylor - Stone Sour/Slipknot
When you tell your parents about how great of a singer Corey Taylor, more often than not they will write him off because of the intensity of Slipknot. For as great as the 9 are, the heaviness that their songs possess have been known to send many of the older metalheads into a spiraling rant about "kids these days." What those folks are missing out on is one of the greatest vocalists of the modern age, regardless of genre.
While Taylor's vocal chops in Slipknot feature primarily unclean vocals, the man's work with Stone Sour, along with Slipknot's hooks, can put most other rock vocalists to shame. The way that he weaves together perfect melodies on songs like "Snuff" and "Bother" show his tender vocals, while a song like "Through Glass" shows just how ferocious he can be when manning a straight ahead rock affair.
Even on some of Slipknot's heavier songs like "Wait and Bleed," Taylor's finesse in switching from singing to shouting on a dime is something most metal vocalists wish they could master. Although Taylor's range isn't exactly in the same category as someone like Freddie Mercury, what he is able to do with his voice has made for one of the more impressive resumes in modern rock.
