15 Incredible New Hip-Hop Stars You Must Hear

4. Tink

Tink is an interesting one. She has a rap flow that can match anyone on this list. Her soulful vocals are gorgeous. She can write damn catchy melodies. She has put out some of the most impressive mixtapes of the past few years (particularly the Winter's Diary trilogy). There's no doubt - she's the most exciting female rapper in the genre at the moment. Yet there remain concerns that her forthcoming album may not live up to expectations, through no fault of her own. The worry is that the album is due to feature production from legendary R&B super-producer Timbaland. 10-20 years ago, that would have been an unbelievably exciting proposition, given Timbaland's game-changing work on albums by Aaliyah, Justin Timberlake and Missy Elliott, but the producer's more recent output has felt fairly stale and derivative in comparison. Critics fear that Tink's outstanding potential may be watered-down by the producer. Regardless, her work to date has been exceptional. Just check out that awesome Winter's Diary trilogy, or her most impressive features to date - on the Future Brown-produced tracks Wanna Party and Room 302, and the Kelela/Dj Dahi collaboration Want It. Those collaborators are at the forefront of contemporary music, and that makes them the perfect match for a vocalist with the potential to be almost as big as Nicki Minaj.
