15 Most Underrated Hard Rock Albums Of All Time

8. A Thousand Suns - Linkin Park

Linkin Park's shifts in musical styles have caused their fanbase to fluctuate throughout the years. While fans have a special place in their heart for albums like Hybrid Theory, the band's experimentations with more electronic and pop styles have left their metalhead fans feeling cold. The band was always looking to add onto their sound, but never was the change so drastic than on A Thousand Suns.

Linkin Park may have flirted with electronic music here and there, but this record is where they took the quantum leap forward. This caused a lot of the band's rock crowd to immediately dismiss the record without so much as a second glance. Instead of the misguided screwup you may have heard about, this record is actually a bold new direction for the band, with songs that coat the record in a post-nuclear war haze.

The heaviness is not totally absent though, with songs like "When They Come For Me" having a forceful backbeat, while other tracks like "Waiting for the End" show just how great the band's songs can be outside of the rock confines. A Thousand Suns may be looked at as the pariah of Linkin Park's catalog, but those slagging it off don't realize how much great music they're leaving on the table.
