15 Most Underrated Hard Rock Albums Of All Time

9. High N Dry - Def Leppard

Def Leppard really made their presence known throughout the 80's. After years of having minimal success outside of their native England, the band hit it big with Pyromania and Hysteria, which still hold up as some of the best pop rock albums to ever come out of the hair metal movement.

The afterglow of these albums are so big that most people forget about the more raw hard rock act that the band were in their early days. As opposed to the more pop centric direction of their later work, High N Dry is where the band truly brought together all the great trappings of rock and roll into one complete package. Though everyone singles out Mutt Lange for turning the band towards pop, this was the producer's first go-round with the band, which made for some meaty guitar hooks.

While the vocals are not as layered as they are on later releases, Joe Elliot's vocal shriek is still as powerful as anyone in the world of hard rock. The band did get a taste of big time success with "Bringin On the Heartbreak," but the crux of this record sounds like a more straight-ahead take on the sound of AC/DC. The band would have prettier sounding production later, but never was their raw energy more refined than on this record.
