20 Greatest Punk Albums Ever Made
5. The Clash - London Calling
As the second and final album by The Clash to make this list, 'London Calling' is an all-time classic both beyond and within punk rock. As the band's third record, it had the tough task of living up to the hype built by 'Give 'Em Enough Rope', but it surpassed this landmark with ease.
Released in 1979, 'London Calling' is one of the most critically acclaimed punk records of all time and once you see some of the songs it produced, it's easy to see why. Although this record lacked the anti-establishment aggression of other punk albums, 'London Calling' represented the changing tides for The Clash, as they slowly began to embrace a more rock focused approach.
'London Calling' is of course most commonly remembered for the timeless title-track, but it also houses other exceptional tunes such as 'Brand New Cadillac', 'Spanish Bombs' and 'The Guns of Brixton'.
