Probably grunge but its so ridiculously good it just has to be included. Here was music with depth, soul and in lead singer Eddie Vedder a charismatic yet mysterious figure with the ability to inflect raw emotion and catharsis into every syllable; Generation X had found their spokesperson. Ten was a powerful debut and one which catapulted Pearl Jam to the forefront of the emerging grunge scene, much to Kurt Cobain's chagrin who labelled them commercial sell-outs. In all honesty, the band were not ready for such immediate success, perfectly comfortable playing intimate gigs to accompany their intimate songs but bigger stages were calling and their rise was meteoric. A landmark album of the early '90s Alt-Rock scene, Pearl Jam approached dark subject matter without forgetting to include hooks and choruses big enough to rival the Hard Rock giants of the 1970's. "Once", "Even Flow", "Alive", "Black" and "Jeremy" are exquisitely written songs, delivered passionately and with a raw, entirely genuine anthemic sound encapsulated by Eddie Vedder's unique delivery. Grunge may have annihilated hard rock and metal for too many years but without it we wouldn't have had this classic, and that would have been a very, very bad thing. The band were right when naming it....it certainly is a ten.

I love Heavy Metal, and generally anything that involves a guitar and loud noises, so I figured it was about time I put all the useless information in my head to good use and start writing a few things. Most of the time I'll be writing nonsense but occasionally I may surprise myself and appear half-way knowledgable.....but you can be the judge of that. Thanks for your fleeting attention!
