20 Most IMPORTANT Classic Rock Albums Ever Made

3. Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd

After the 60's ended and the Summer of Love started to fade from view, newcomers to the rock scene were unsure about where to go next.

While some held tight to the blues and stayed the course, other bands were interested in how much further the rock sound could be pushed. Amid these experimental acts were Pink Floyd, who focused all of their artistic energy in creating one of the most essential albums in music history.

Many people may be a touch disappointed when they first hear Dark Side of the Moon, considering the album's massive popularity. On the other hand, the more you listen to this album, the more genius appears, from the meditation of life on "Breathe" to the vapid consumerist attitude that permeates the song "Money."

All of the tracks seem to have very broad lyrical themes, from the passage of time to the common connections between people, but each track reflects the monotonous cycle of everyday life that people tend to find themselves in. While sounding absolutely stellar, Pink Floyd managed to take the existential nightmares that people have on their mind every single second and turn them into some of the most pointed songs in rock. Once Dark Side of the Moon took its hold on society, the bar had been set for every other prog rock band to follow.
