20 Most Underrated Hard Rock Songs Of All Time

12. Children Of The Grave - Black Sabbath

By the mid 70's, Black Sabbath had made the sound of heavy metal their calling card. Originally labeled as a hard rock act, the band's use of macabre subject matters and riffs the size of skyscrapers made them the ideal band for those who wanted something heavier than Cream or the Rolling Stones. After two albums of stellar rock music, the band decided to take us down below the Earth's crust for "Children of the Grave."

Starting with a relentless gallop, the song almost feels like seeing the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse coming up from the underground to lay claim to all living beings. This was also the first time guitarist Tony Iommi began to tune his guitar down lower, making every guitar stab much more powerful. The lyrics match the instrumentation perfectly, as Ozzy Osbourne offers a savage assault on the peace movements that were coming to an end.

Rather than looking back on the utopia of Flower Power, this was the sound of the Love Generation being set on fire. Though this song didn't see the same accolades as tracks like "Iron Man" or "Paranoid," it provided the final death knell for the idealistic 60's. After just a few minutes, the hippie movements were over and the time had come for hard rock's rise.
