20 Punk Rock Albums You Must Hear Before You Die

11. Dookie - Green Day

Like Blink-182, Green Day is a band that has fallen out of favor among punk rock fans over the years thanks to their mainstream success. However, you really can't fault them for making music so good that it caught on with larger audiences.

While the band has released some knockouts over the years, like American Idiot and their most recent album, Revolution Radio, it's their third studio release, Dookie, which really shows the band at some of their very best.

This is the album where early Green Day was winding down, and the more modern version of the band was starting to take form. In turn, Dookie offers the best of both worlds. And with iconic tracks like Basket Case, Burnout and the re-recorded version of Welcome to Paradise, it's hard not to consider Dookie prime Green Day.
