20 Punk Rock Albums You Must Hear Before You Die
12. Milo Goes To College - Descendents
The Descendents are largely credited with being the band that established pop punk as we know it today. However, even before that, they were a mainstay of the southern California hardcore scene. And their relevance was due in no small part to their first studio album, Milo Goes to College.
Lead singer Milo Aukerman's energetic vocals help to make the already snappy songs on this album flow incredibly well. What's more is that Milo Goes to College is half a regular album and half a concept album, with songs like Myage, Bikeage, and Jean Is Dead apparently telling one whole story.
Plus, the standalone tracks are great as well. They express conflict with one's family, like in the anger-driven song Parents; the binding nature of conformity, like in the song Suburban Home, and even disillusionment with the punk rock movement itself, like in I'm Not a Punk.
