20 Punk Rock Albums You Must Hear Before You Die

14. Damaged - Black Flag

Black Flag's music might not be quite as melodious as that of, say, Generation X or Operation Ivy, but it's also nothing if not raw and filed with passion. And as far as hardcore punk goes, it's one of the most important albums you could possibly listen to.

While the album didn't receive much praise when it was first released in late 1981, it has since come to be heralded as one of the most pivotal punk rock albums of all time, and rightly so.

The sheer fire behind lead singer Henry Rollins' vocals is peerless, the tracks on the album can be both passionate and rage-filled, like Rise Above, or charming and funny, like TV Party. And at the end of the day, Black Flag, due in large part to this album, is considered to be the all-important cornerstone of the punk rock scene in southern California.
