20 Unsigned Metal Bands Everyone Needs To Hear
13. Toledo Steel
As much as people may like to say that the '80s style of metal is pretty much dead, the old-school truly lives on in Southampton-based rockers Toledo Steel.
With two self-released EP's to their name, as well as a debut album that's currently being recorded, Rich Rutter and co. have not only built up a dedicated following in their coastal hometown, but have also played several shows in continental Europe too, shredding out a blindingly fast yet highly harmonic style of metal that sounds like early Iron Maiden on speed.
Unlike bands such as Holy Grail, however, who specialise in making the old-school more modern and thrash-tinged, Toledo Steel proudly sticks to its roots, knowing what works and resurrecting it in the 21st century.
Tracks like "City Lights" and "Speed Killer" are quick-paced and nostalgic thrill rides packed with awesomely harmonic riffs thanks to shredders David Dowland and Tom Potter, strong enough to bring a tear to the eye of fans of NWOBHM pioneers like Judas Priest, Tygers of Pan Tang, Diamond Head and Angel Witch.
