2019’s 10 Weirdest Music Collaborations

4. Morrissey And Billie Joe Armstrong - Wedding Bell Blues

The former singer of The Smiths released his twelfth solo album in May 2019, and consisted entirely of cover versions of songs Morrissey grew up with. Wedding Bell Blues was originally a no. 1 for The Fifth Dimension in 1969. It is quite surprising that Morrissey chose to duet this 1966 soul track with an artist who was still six years from being born when the original came out.

Wedding Bell Blues is about a longing for proposal from a man who is yet to do so. This man is named Bill. Morrissey simply choosing the first Bill he could think of in Billie Joe Armstrong, which does sound like the most Morrissey thing ever.

Speaking about the track, the Green Day frontman described Morrissey on his Instagram as “truly a legend”. The track also features the backing vocals of eighteen-year-old frontwoman of The Regrettes, Lydia Night. With Morrissey's controversial politically-charged concerts in recent years, we wouldn't expect this track to be performed live with guests any time soon.
