2020 Grammy Awards: Predicting The Biggest Winners
8. Best Rock Album
Nominees: 'Amo' - Bring Me The Horizon, 'Social Cues' - Cage The Elephant, 'In The End' - The Cranberries, 'Trauma' - I Prevail, 'Feral Roots' - Rival Sons
In recent years, the Grammys have demonstrated a penchant for awarding recently deceased stars with major rock honors. The last three Best Rock Performance winners, David Bowie, Leonard Cohen and Chris Cornell, have all won the award posthumously, while Bowie won for Best Rock Song as well in 2017.
Regardless of your feelings on this practice, it's a trend that makes this year's Best Rock Album category fairly easy to predict.
Despite a strong year from Rival Sons, including a Billboard Mainstream Rock chart topper in 'Do your Worst' from their nominated album 'Feral Roots', The Cranberries will likely win the award for their well-received final outing 'In The End'.
Lead singer Dolores O'Riordan tragically passed away in 2018, effectively cutting the legendary band's career short. Given The Recording Academy's track record in situations like this, it would therefore be hard to imagine them giving the award to anyone but the band that brought us hits like 'Linger' and 'Zombie'.
Winner: 'In The End' - The Cranberries
