21 Best Punk Albums Of The 21st Century

17. The Chats - Get F*cked

As one of only two 2022 releases to make this list, The Chats' second studio album looks to become a trendsetting release for Australian punk rock. The Queensland based trio exploded into world view in 2017 thanks to their debut single, 'Smoko'. The now ARIA Gold certified single has earned over 22 million Spotify streams, and is a self-proclaimed "YouTube Classic" for the band with 17 million views.

'Get This in Ya', the band's 2017 EP which featured 'Smoko' (alongside another big streaming hit in 'Bus Money') proved to be the spring-loaded launching pad for The Chat's careers. Almost in a heartbeat, The Chats went from Queensland's local venue poster boys to the faces of Australian punk rock. Sometimes overnight success can prove to be a curse as opposed to a blessing, but The Chats have taken their opportunity to shine and run with it.

In 2020, 'High Risk Behaviour' became the band's first full length studio album, and was soon followed by the record in question in August 2022. Influence from the Ramones is apparent due to the rip-roaring, two-minutes of fury song structures which make up the majority of the record, while the unique character of the band keeps you reeled in. Key songs from this restless, non-stop roller-coaster record include '6L GTR', 'Struck By Lightning', 'Ticket Inspector' and 'I've Been Drunk In Every Pub in Brisbane'.
