Not only was Allman one of the most celebrated session guitarists of all time - playing on the likes of Eric Clapton's majestic "Layla" - he was also a huge artist in his own right with the The Allman Brothers Band. Such was his unbelievable ability - particularly in terms of his sliding style - that Eric Clapton rightly predicted that working with his would change guitar music forever.

Unfortunately Allman died young, or he could well have continued to get better.
