In a true Boy's Own story self-taught Frusciante auditioned for his favourite band in 1989 after Hillel Solvak died of an overdose. Incredibly he got the job, reinventing the Red Hot Chili Peppers sound and transforming them from punk scoundrels to stadium rockers.

Despite drug problems that saw him quit the band, Frusciante was so key to the Peppers that his return for 1999's Californication kicked on a whole other level of success.

Key Track: "Under The Bridge"
