25 Greatest Muse Songs Of All Time

23. Knights Of Cydonia

http://youtu.be/z9D71pQaTnc If anyone wanted to know what trumpeteers riding war-horses through space sounded like, 'Knights Of Cydonia' is the place to go. The sequel to 'Hoodoo''s spaghetti-western drama sees Muse taking on the universe and winning. The lyrics take a turn for the silly here, with "Don't waste your time or time will waste you" possibly enough to make it onto a cheap motivational poster but nothing more. This one is all about the strutting guitar riff Bellamy probably nicked from The Darkness, and the magnificent drumming from Dominic Howard at the song's close which brings to mind dousing an already burning building with more petrol. This is not Muse's finest moment by any stretch, but was a suitably rousing finale to 'Black Holes And Revelations', an album that took the charts by storm.

22. Muscle Museum

http://youtu.be/kTK60tE3hhs One of Muse's earliest singles bore all of their best hallmarks - crashing drums, bitter lyrics, and exotic-sounding guitars. The band actually re-released this single before it made any impression on the charts - reaching number 25. This was actually my first exposure to the band, as they were performing on Top Of The Pops that week, and as an impressionable youngster that could've gone either way when it came to music, 'Muscle Museum' certainly captured my intrigue, a year before 'Origin Of Symmetry' blew my mind completely. The haircuts have fortunately calmed down, but this was as good an introduction as anyone could hope for. Incredibly that was now thirteen years ago, and fourteen since the initial release. http://youtu.be/TYqmDqFh038
