25 Greatest Muse Songs Of All Time

21. Shine Acoustic

http://youtu.be/XgQY_5YsVxA This song is something of a rarity if you jumped on the Muse bandwagon recently. One of two recorded versions, this more hushed rendition makes an appearance on the opening disc of the band's 'Hullabaloo' soundtrack album (the electric version was a bonus track on the 'Feeling Good/Hyper Music' single). For the record, this is surely their best non-album song. The sound of thunder and gentle rain or a waterfall opens this, with gently arpeggiating synths soon being joined by acoustic guitar and slow drums. A mournful Matt lilts his way through the verse before raising his voice before the beautifully ascending chorus. Things get a bit more dramatic for the weighty finale, as Dominic makes full use of his cymbals and Matt full use of his stunning vocal range as he pleads "take me back again". The same thunderstorm sees us home as we catch our breath back.

20. City Of Delusion

http://youtu.be/jGdW4PaY4hA Muse's Morricone influence was again apparent here as a trumpet makes an appearance courtesy of Dan Newell's impressive solo during the middle eight. This was one of the songs composed in Italy, as Muse became globe-trotters for the making of 'Black Holes And Revelations', seeking out new influences. The general tone of this song is quite relaxing, yet the lyrics betray a common urge of the band to question mainstream thought and always seek to avoid the destructive and greed of humanity. An impressive studio trick also sees bassist Chris Wolstenhome recreate what one imagines would be the sound of an underwater bass guitar. Again, proceedings lead to a crashing and wailing halt, but with more culture than your typical Muse song.
