http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEQkeL-G47g Kim Gordon is one of the godmother's of alternative rock and a true pioneer. Her powerful presence, marvellous bass playing and charged vocals were a huge part of Sonic Youth's success. She was the perfect combination of punk and artist. She had a great influence over many artistic mediums, Kathleen Hanna (of Bikini Kill and Le Tigre) and director Sofia Coppola have both openly praised her. Influenced by no-wave bands, Kim formed Sonic Youth with future husband Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo. They combined elements of hardcore punk and noise rock to create an extremely unique sound. Strange guitar tunings and experimental uses of other items, such as electric drills, enabled Sonic Youth to develop a style like no other. Gordon was a big part of that, and was a powerful enough bass player to keep up with the heavy-fire guitars of Ranaldo and Moore. Kim has had other successes outside of Sonic Youth. She has had a lengthy career as a fashion designer and as a video director. She has also produced several albums by other artists. Key Tracks: 1. 'Cross The Breeze 2. Tunic 3. Stones
