1. Kurt Cobain Was Murdered
It seemed a fairly open and shut case; Kurt Cobain, found in his home, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. His struggles with addiction and depression had long been made public knowledge and when the inevitable happened, with the public shocked yet not necessarily surprised. Cobain was the classic tortured artist; gifted, sensitive, his music was indicative of his inner state. Suicide seemed a logical extension of this. So when rumour started circulating that he had possibly been murdered, many were sceptical, to say the least. It was the documentary, Kurt And Courtney by British filmmaker, Nick Broomfield which seemingly legitimised these claims, with Broomfield hunting down the always charming El Duce, who claimed to have been approached by Courtney Love in regards to murdering her then husband and Courtneys father, who backed up such claims with unsavoury accusations of his own. Courtney herself refused to comment on such allegations, which many took to be confirmation of her part in it. In reality, of course, there are very few of us who would give such accusations the time of day if they were shot at us regarding our departed spouses. In the end, nothing much came of such claims; Courtney Love became the train wreck we see in the tabloids today, her father fled from the limelight and El Duce is dead, hit by a train, an occurrence which many added to the conspiracy pyre. Yet when most violent alcoholics walk in front of a train, it is seen as being somewhat inevitable, much like the furore surrounding Cobains death unfortunately.
VERDICT: Uncertain. You would never believe it until seeing the unfortunately dark world that Cobain inhabited in Broomfields documentary.
