5 Guitarists That Could Replace DJ Ashba In Guns N' Roses

4. Dave Navarro

Dave Navarro, founding member of Jane's Addiction and former guitarist with The Red Hot Chili Peppers, is another who contributed to the Chinese Democracy sessions without actually becoming an official member of the band. He is even featured on the 1999 single Oh My God. His virtuosity and very impressive resume makes him a popular choice with GN'R fans, and both stylistically and in terms of his stage persona he actually shares a fair amount in common with DJ Ashba. Bearing in mind that Axl already has an exceptional rhythm guitarist in Richard Fortus, thus ruling out returns for the likes of Gilby or Izzy, Navarro could be the perfect figure to reintroduce the sexy rock and roll swagger back into the GN'R aesthetic. Sadly, Navarro may have burned his bridges as far as GN'R is concerned. Rumours regarding the reason for him never becoming a permanent member in the 90s suggested that his well-documented drug issues made him too erratic to join the band full-time (imagine that - someone too self-destructive even for Axl!). Navarro seems to have cleaned up his act recently though, so don't be too shocked if Axl considers him for the third slot.
