One of the most polarising bands on this list, My Chemical Romance certainly have their fair share of detractors to go with massed ranks of fanatical young supporters. After two albums of relatively straightforward emo-punk, they took Green Day's "punk rock opera" template and expanded upon it immensely. Incorporating soaring, Queen-esque guitar riffs, mournful piano ballads and a hearty slice of brass, Gerard Way and co. prove that the very concept of emo has far wider parameters than previously imagined.
