Making their name via a trio of cartoonish albums primarily concerned with showing off and having fun, Outkast seemed content to champion their Atlanta roots and prove themselves two of the most outlandish rappers in the game. Then they released Stankonia, a scathing social commentary which elevated them far beyond the status of kooky southern boys into heroes of the scene. Although previous tracks such as 'Rosa Parks' tackled sensitive cultural issues, they always softened the blow with a typically jaunty sound. Here, however, anti-American anthem 'Gasoline' and child custody smash hit 'Miss Jackson' are submerged in squawking guitar riffs and murky piano chords, while 'B.O.B.' is perhaps an even more relevant political critique today than it was upon its 2000 release.
