38. Benny and the Jets
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_l_runP4-Q This is one of my most favorite covers of all time and features Biz Markie on vocals. If you don't like the Biz, you'll probably hate this cover, but if you do, then you're in luck! Biz mumbles and slurs his words through this Elton Johns classic like only he can. Because really, who actually knows all the words to "Benny and the Jets"? 37. Paul Revere
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqipMcwJeQI This is what modern rap needs to get back to; the concept that a song tells a story. Think Slick Rick's "Children's Story", or pretty much any old school hip hop. On "Paul Revere", the Beastie Boys spit a fictional tale of the three of them going around causing all kinds of mischief. The ridiculous lyrics paint a vivid picture in your mind of the story unfolding as the song progresses. The strange beat is an 808 drum being replayed backwards. Stand out line: "Now my name is MCA, I've got a license to kill/I think you know what time it is, it's time to get ill" 36. Lighten Up
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvKqY0TcHtw If you still aren't yet convinced how musically diverse the Beasties are, just listen to this song. In this psychedelic jam session, Money Mark stands out with his funky key leads, backed by a spacey instrumental and chants of "Lighten up, gotta lighten up, gotta lighten up right now." This is the first instrumental track on Check Your Head and sets the bar for future Beastie Boys instrumentals.
