6 More Bands You Should be Listening to Right Now

2. Foxygen

rock'n'roll/psychedelic/garage/pop So, from an old band come anew we arrive at a new band come old. Sure, they might be a fresh faced songwriting duo, newest signing of Jagjaguwar with their debut not yet released but there€™s something older than their years in the music they play. These are clearly a pair who take their major cues from the big players of the 60s, though that€™s not to say they sound like some rehashing near plagiarising of said acts. No, sure you can hear the influences but the arrangement of these influences is very modern in its eclecticism that verges on ADHD. For example the song Make It Known (only having heard this morning on the strength of which I featured them here), it its almost five minutes you can hear the poppier end of The Velvet Underground€™s spectrum, The Rolling Stones at the height of their game, the swing of The Kinks and the bombast of Neil Diamond, all the while its carried off with a youthful and modern exuberance that brings to mind The Strokes and MGMT. The EP is out in July but you can stream it for free in the mean time. http://youtu.be/g0AxnDU3wWg
