7 Problems Only Drummers Would Understand
5. Other Musicians Talking To You Like A Baby
Learning to play the guitar is undeniably hard, there can be no lack of respect for anybody who dedicated enough hours to become proficient on the thing. The fact that guitarists have uncanny levels of musical skill should be remembered when they try to act as though drums are for simpletons though.
Minding your own business behind the kit and straining to hear that intricate guitar part, drummers are often confronted by well-meaning guitarists or singers who have their own ideas on how a drum part should sound. This is when the dreaded 'baby speak' comes into play.
Every drummer has heard it, those moments when everyone treats you like a kid and starts hitting out with things like, "Dum-de-dum-dum-dum' or, 'Boosh-bang-boom'.
The irony of that first sound being exactly the same as the word 'dumb' should not be lost on anybody.
Worse, many of these fellow bandmates actually make motions with their hands, as though you (the actual musician sitting behind the kit) may have forgotten how to play drums completely.
