7 "Rockstars" That Kanye West Is A Bigger Rockstar Than

1. Axl Rose

"I’m the No. 1 living and breathing rock star. I am Axl Rose; I am Jim Morrison; I am Jimi Hendrix." Yeah, only two of those guys are dead, Kanye.

Axl Rose: one of the greatest front men ever for one of the greatest rock bands ever, he is the very soul of what it is to be a rock star. He ticks every box. Everything, from his appearance, his lyrics, his media persona, the fact that people think he’s just a dumb hick and then he sits at a piano and plays November Rain, he is up there with the most memorable rock stars that have ever walked the earth.

Him incensing the rest of Guns n’ Roses to the point of them quitting, then keeping the name, getting a guitarist in who wears a KFC bucket on his head and making the most delayed, un-eagerly awaited album of the 21st century doesn’t make him less of a rock star, it just makes him a prick. Which, if anything, makes him more of a rock star.

Like Kanye, Axl absolutely could not stomach his musical genius not being recognised, leading to several bust-ups, mainly with the press and eventually with the rest of his band. On 1991's Use Your Illusion II, track 'Get In The Ring' sees Axl threatening several music journalists and inviting them to fight him, particularly honing in on Spin's Bob Guccione Jr. He famously loathes Jon Bon Jovi, he accused Metallica's James Hetfield of being a racist and his total disrespect towards his fans have caused them to riot more than once.

Axl Rose has the total extravagance, arrogance and a God complex to rival Kanye West’s, and I personally feel that, in terms of impact, talent and memorability, Axl is more comparable to Kanye than anyone else. The reason he’s on this list is simply because, in 2015, Kanye West is a bigger rock star than Axl Rose is. He has a long way to go before he catches up to him in his heyday.

The fact that Kanye West is such a controversial figure only adds to his status. Is he the greatest living rock star on the planet? Not as long as AC/DC are alive.
