9 Weirdest Marketing Gimmicks Ever Used To Sell Music Albums

3. Indie Band Puts Their Record on Ice

Sometimes bands do weird things exclusively for the sake of doing weird things and hoping people will talk about how weird the things are that they did. That's probably what happened here when Swedish indie pop group Shout Out Louds decided to make their single, "Blue Ice," available as a 7" record made of ice. Ten of these were either sold or awarded to fans who would then use a provided freezing kit to "make" the record and play it on a standard turntable. How does one play a record that it comprised entirely of water and cold? There's some science talk about the use of silicone to keep bubbles from formulating too much and some other technobabble, but thankfully the marketing geniuses provided this helpful instructional video to the album's lucky owners on how to listen to a goddamn album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9Q88uTdgWY
