Alter Bridge: 10 Hidden Song Details You Never Noticed

8. Broken Wings Is About People Trying To Exploit Mark Tremonti

From One Day Remains, Broken Wings is one of the first songs Alter Bridge ever wrote together as a band, and to this day it is one of their finest. Even now, 16 years and five more albums after its release, this song still gets one of the biggest reactions when played live.

In many ways, Alter Bridge don't truly fit into the typical rock star/music industry model. They are simply too nice, too humble, and too down to earth to fit the usual mold. What the four men do seem to share with the rest of the music industry however, at least when Broken Wings was written, is that people will always try and exploit that position.

The lyrics of Broken Wings were written by Mark Tremonti, and were based around this kind of person looking to use him for nothing more than his connections or for personal gain on their side. People who were often very close to the musician, but had the most to gain by turning on him.

The line 'Who's to say we won't end up alone' is about how people who live their lives this way, taking advantage of others to climb the ladder themselves, will most likely die alone.
