Bjork: Every Album Ranked From Worst To Best

4. Debut

Bjork established herself in the pop consciousness with this love letter to life in 1993. The trip hop style of the album put her in the company of artists such as Portishead and Massive Attack, but separated Bjork as an artist with a much more optimistic take on the genre.

It is impossible not to join in on the album's joy. From the first bouncy notes of "Human Behavior," Bjork takes the listener on a romp through a collection of love songs largely written years before the release of the album, some written when she was a teenager.

While many of her other releases detail celebration in spite of something, Debut deals with plain celebration. Though this plain happiness is not sacrificed for any mediocrity. This is the type of album that could be listed as an "alien party record." When placed against other electronic albums of its year, nothing else can hold a candle to the refreshing originality of Debut.
