Bloodstock Festival 2017: 10 Bands You Must See

3. Raised By Owls

If this group's inclusion in my previous "20 Best Unsigned Bands" and "10 New Pioneers of Old-School Metal" lists hasn't tipped you off, Raised by Owls is bloody fantastic!

Inspired by an unhallowed union of pummelling grindcore, internet memes and The Great British Bake Off, Raised by Owls is a British five-piece that plays extreme metal inordinately irreverently, with such masterpieces in their repertoire as "David Cameron's Favourite Band Is Pig Destroyer", "Scary Spice Has a Gangrenous Arm" and "Cliff Richard Drinks from the Skulls of His Enemies".

Hot off both a critically acclaimed debut in the form of the immaculate, full-length Great British Grind Off (2016) and a hard-earned victory at Nottingham's Metal to the Masses competition, this band will prove perfect for their early Saturday slot on the New Blood Stage, mixing anarchic, headbang-causing, blackened death metal with charismatic wit.

Truly, this band will be a sure-fire antidote to the inevitable hangover many of the Bloodstock attendees will be suffering as Raised by Owls take the stage. However, through sheer, grindy goodness, it won't take long for this quintet to blast the cobwebs out of the skulls of all within the vicinity.
