There are some songs that have been so perfectly crafted by their original artist it can be near impossible to get them right. 

Luckily, for The Killers this pitfall was thankfully avoided due to artistic craft and even just a touch of unusual fortune. The whole set-up of this Abbey Road cover is measured perfectly, but Flowers' performance was unusually aided by his health. Having admitted to being ill at the time, his voice contained just a hint of gravel that is usually absent from his clean-cut belt. 

The result gives the song's Romeo character somewhat of an edgier drawl; he almost sounds threatening at times in his deep proclamations of love - yet the whole thing somehow retains the heartwarming beauty of this most famous tale of forbidden love.
