Bring Me The Horizon: Ranking Every Album Worst To Best

2. Count Your Blessings

Did you know BMTH were once a deathcore band? Not only that, they were a bloody good one. Sadly, those old enough to remember their first album, Count Your Blessings, are mostly too old to really appreciate a good bit of deathcore anymore, but to some of us it’s a timeless art.

Can you imagine the sheer confusion and panic for a young fan, coming off the back of Amo, deciding to attend their first BMTH show and bop to some synth, when suddenly the lights go down and they open with Pray for Plagues?

It would be beautiful.

The band’s motivations for changing their style after this terrific debut were likely mature and well thought out. Wanting to diversify, wanting to reach wider audiences and maybe concerns around the long-term damage of growling into a microphone for 90 minutes every evening for the next 10 to 20 years.

However, that doesn’t soften the blow from knowing just how good this band’s deathcore work was, and knowing we’ll probably never get any more.

Thankfully, Count Your Blessings will always be there for those of us looking for our fill of sweet, grindy breakdowns. We may not be able to windmill like we used to, but dammit, we’ll give it our best shot.
