Download Festival 2014 Review: 10 Best Performances

6. Alter Bridge

It€™s only a matter of time before Myles Kennedy - the greatest voice in rock and roll - headlines at Download. As he said during his band€™s penultimate slot on Sunday (nothing to be embarrassed about when it€™s under Aerosmith), he€™s played this gig a number of times, and with each, the crowd has got bigger, the hype wilder and the set slicker. If it wasn€™t for the slightly uneven setlist (which ended on a slow but no less impressive note), and an early audio problem that Mark Tremonti fixed quickly (it still shouldn€™t have happened), Alter Bridge would have been higher on the list, because they€™re a typically impressive prospect whenever they play. Unquestionably dependable, and happy segueing from heavy rock to more melodic, emotionally loaded, the band were typically great, and there are few frontmen quite as impressive without bluster as Kennedy as he continues to prove whether his band-mates are Alter Bridge or Slash and The Conspirators.
