Eminem: 10 Things You Didn't Know About The Marshall Mathers LP

3. 'Kim' Was The First Track Recorded For The Album

Even amongst a catalogue cluttered with controversial content, Eminem’s ‘Kim’ manages to stand out as one of the rapper’s most shocking songs so far.

Serving as a prequel to the equally controversial ’97 Bonnie & Clyde’ from ‘The Slim Shady LP’, which depicts Eminem disposing of his wife’s dead body with the help of his baby daughter, ‘Kim’ describes the argument and eventual act of killing his then wife in gruesome detail.

Despite the graphic depiction of this twisted fantasy, it is widely regarded as one of Eminem’s most fascinating pieces of work. Amazingly, he and Kim reconciled after he wrote this song, which must have led to an awkward conversation after she heard the track.

In his book, ‘Angry Blonde’, Eminem recalls playing Kim the song:

“I asked her to tell me what she thought of it. I remember my dumb-ass saying ‘I know this is a f***ed-up song, but it shows how much I care about you. To even think about you this much”

Yeah, you’re right Marshall, it’s actually quite romantic.
